Expense. It is very costly to own a racehorse 100%… there are monthly boarding fees, farrier fees, veterinary fees, equine dentistry fees, feed, hay, vitamins, tack, grooming supplies, trainers, travel, and so much more. At Thoroughbred Racing Nation, we acquire horses a number of different ways. We purchase them at public auction, or in private sales, we acquire them via claiming races, and we breed them. Thoroughbred Racing Nation differs from most Thoroughbred partnership companies as we prefer to breed our own racehorses. In other words, we pair our broodmares with exceptional stallions with the end goal of stamina, speed, strong bones, and racing potential as part of the breeding equation. From there, we raise the foals and put them into our training program when they are two-years-old. This business model has given us the ability to maintain quality control with the horses we offer for partners. Once our fillies have retired from racing,\u00a0many of them can begin their second career as broodmares \u2013 ultimately continuing the cycle of breeding, foaling, and developing exceptional racehorses.<\/p>\n

Currently, we actively race in Florida, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, Ohio, Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. However, we are working to expand our reach where we will enter races in other states within the country.<\/p>\n

With that being said, we always believe it\u2019s best to diversify portfolios with multiple horses with lesser percentages to spread the risk and increase your chances of success. Our partners are always welcomed to visit their horses at the stable area in the mornings when they train, and to watch them during their barn routines. On race day, we suggest our partners gather in the paddock before the race to meet the trainer and jockey while experiencing the excitement of their horses getting saddled before heading to the track. If your horse finishes first, partners share in the ultimate joy and exhilaration of making their way into the Winner\u2019s Circle for the coveted Winner\u2019s Photo! Each partner has the opportunity to receive a copy of the win photo. Our partners are also a part of many events and get-togethers planned throughout the year where everyone can relax and enjoy the fellowship of racehorse ownership.<\/p>\n

Most races in the US are free to enter. However, there are costs such as jockey fees (these average around $65 for losing mounts to 10% of purse money for winning mounts). There are some higher end stakes races that do have entry fees, nomination fees, and start fees which are based on a percentage of the purse size.<\/p>\n
